Large Imperial or Third Reich Era Solid Bronze Sculpture of a Germanic Knight

Standing at approximately 13 in tall, this is a heavy, very high quality solid bronze sculpture of a very solemn looking Germanic knight. With head bowed he appears to be in either deep thought or prayer, with both hands crossed and resting upon the hilt of his sword. While further research is required, it is strongly suspected that this sculpture may be associated with the Volkerschlachtdenkmal (Monument to the Battle of the Nations) war memorial located in Leipzig, Germany. This assumption is due to the striking resemblance this figure has in common with the larger than life stone figures portrayed at this famous monument. The Völkerschlachtdenkmal was used in 1945 by the Germans as a fortress to fight a last stand battle to keep American forces from capturing the city of Leipzig, however they failed to do so.

Please take note that the body and sword are cast in two parts. The knight's body and first upper 1/3rd portion of the sword hilt and blade are all one piece. The bottom 2/3rds of the sword blade is the second piece and joined perfectly with the first. This is not damage and is noted for accuracy's sake. With it's highly detailed and skilled craftsmanship and historical authenticity, this sculpture makes a fine addition to any Imperial or Third Reich German collection as well as a beautiful display piece for any home or office.
