Unique Luristan-Elamite Bronze Axe Head w/ Rear Nub c. 1850-1350 B.C.

An exceptional and rare Small Bronze Axe Head from ancient Elam or Luristan, dating to roughly 1850–1350 B.C. This early Bronze Age weapon features a clean straight-edged blade and a highly unusual design element—a large, rounded rear nub or butt protrusion.

The piece is cast in copper alloy and exhibits a striking natural patina with a blend of green, brown, and grey coloring from prolonged burial. This unique rear projection design sets the axe apart from more common socketed or flanged forms and may indicate a specialized function, perhaps for ritual or elite ceremonial use, or simply reflect a local workshop variation.

Such objects are rarely encountered outside of museum holdings and provide crucial insight into the experimentation and regional diversity in early Bronze Age metallurgy. A highly collectible and distinctively formed artifact with considerable academic and aesthetic value.
